The ZEOS B2B Platform department is the core engine enabling our partners to seamlessly integrate with and scale within the Zalando ecosystem. By unifying complex business services under a high-performance platform umbrella, we provide a holistic API-first environment that empowers our partners to grow their business with speed and flexibility.
As a Principal Software Engineer at ZEOS, you will be a key architect of the common platform and ecosystem that powers both partner-facing and internal products. In this role, you don't just build services; you shape the technical landscape that allows diverse B2B solutions to interact, scale, and thrive. Together with an elite team of engineers and product managers, you will design the foundational REST services and microservices that serve as the interface between our complex internal operations and the external market. You will be the architectural guide for a platform that turns business complexity into scalable, cost-efficient, and secure software. By bridging the gap between high-level business requirements and robust Java-based engineering, you will drive the cross-unit alignment necessary to keep our platform compliant, extensible, and best-in-class. WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
Architect Scalable Ecosystems: Design and drive the technical vision for high-traffic customer portals and internal tools using React, TypeScript, and Node.js.
Master Modular Landscapes: Guide the transition and optimization of our Micro Frontend (MFE) and SPA architectures, ensuring seamless integration across the ZEOS partner landscape.
Bridge Business & Technical Needs: Translate complex business opportunities into Solution Designs that are not only scalable and cost-efficient but also strictly compliant with industry standards.
Support Infrastructure & Security: Guide deployment strategies within AWS and Kubernetes environments, ensuring robust Web Security through the implementation of Okta/OpenID and sophisticated proxy/gateway configurations.
Foster Technical Excellence: Act as a core member of our Principal Community, driving cross-area architectural consistency and elevating development processes through CI/CD, high test coverage, and Design System (DS) maturity.
Align & Empower Delivery: Support multi-disciplinary teams (Engineers, Designers, PMs) and manage high-level stakeholders to ensure project alignment and technical integrity.
WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
Experienced Strategic Leader: You bring 3+ years of experience as a Principal Engineer or Solutions Architect, with a proven track record of leading complex, multi-team projects in cloud environments.
Deep Frontend Expertise: You possess expert-level knowledge of the modern web stack (React, TS, Webpack) and have deep experience managing the complexities of Micro Frontends at scale.
Cloud & Infrastructure Knowledge: You are comfortable navigating AWS and Kubernetes and have a strong grasp of networking fundamentals, including reverse-proxies and API gateways.
Security-Conscious Mindset: You have practical experience implementing modern authentication flows (OpenID/Okta) and protecting applications against sophisticated web vulnerabilities.
Agile Champion: You thrive in an Agile environment, owning the full development lifecycle from initial discovery to CI/CD deployment and automated testing.
Empathetic Mentor & Communicator: You excel at translating "tech-speak" for stakeholders and possess the leadership clarity needed to mentor senior engineers through difficult architectural decisions.
Balanced Practitioner: You are a master of delegation and high-level system thinking, but you aren't afraid to get hands-on when a critical technical challenge requires your direct expertise.
