As a member of our in-house ERP Engineering team, you will play a vital role in the successful delivery of our Zalando Group project portfolio.


As an SAP CAP Developer, you will be the driving force behind our cloud-native transition. Our strategy is built around maintaining a "Clean Core"—ensuring our standard ERP systems remain untouched while we build powerful, scalable extensions alongside them. You will join a forward-thinking engineering team focused on architecting, developing, and deploying robust applications directly on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). Your work will bridge the gap between enterprise business logic and modern, cloud-first architecture, ensuring high-performing data models and seamless user experiences.

Zalando’s Enterprise Applications and Architecture department works with state-of-the-art technology to deliver innovative solutions to all parts of our platform. WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

  • Architect & Model: Design and build domain models, services, and event-driven applications using the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) framework.

  • Write Clean Code: Develop scalable, asynchronous backend logic predominantly in Node.js (JavaScript/TypeScript).

  • Define Services: Use Core Data Services (CDS) to construct semantic data models, compositions, and associations, exposing them seamlessly via OData (V2/V4) endpoints.

  • Craft Interfaces: Utilize CDS annotations to deliver intuitive user interfaces through SAP Fiori Elements and SAPUI5, enabling rapid enterprise app deployment.

  • Secure & Connect: Configure and integrate essential SAP BTP platform services, including XSUAA/IAS for security, the Destination Service for cloud-to-on-premise connectivity, and SAP HANA Cloud via HDI containers.

  • Automate & Deploy: Own your code from commit to production by managing deployments within Cloud Foundry or Kyma (Kubernetes) environments, utilizing modern CI/CD pipelines and Git workflows.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

  • You know the stack inside out: You have proven, hands-on experience building production-ready apps using SAP CAP, Node.js, and Core Data Services (CDS).

  • You understand enterprise data: You are deeply familiar with the OData protocol, lifecycle hooks, and advanced framework capabilities like Draft Handling (autosave orchestration).

  • You speak Cloud fluently: You have solid experience navigating the SAP BTP cockpit, managing space configurations, and deploying cloud-native applications.

  • You are a strong general software engineer: You possess sharp SQL skills, clean code habits, a strong grasp of REST APIs, and experience troubleshooting with modern IDEs (VS Code or SAP Business Application Studio).

  • You love collaborating: You thrive in an agile setup, communicate complex technical decisions clearly, and enjoy mentoring peers on modern SAP cloud paradigms.

  • While we are a cloud-first team, our data runs on enterprise power. We would be absolutely thrilled if you bring a hybrid development background to the table. If you have experience with ABAP (especially ABAP Cloud / RAP) or a strong understanding of traditional SAP ERP backend tables and structures, you will have a massive advantage in helping us seamlessly connect our cloud extensions to the core.
