ABOUT TRADEBYTE

At Tradebyte, we work with the biggest players in e-commerce - from trendsetting fashion brands to major online retailers. Our goal is to create a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered.

We offer flexible work schedules, professional development opportunities, and a real commitment to work-life balance. We embrace diverse perspectives and ensure that every voice is heard and respected, because you’re unique and that matters to us.

As we continue to grow, we’re looking for new colleagues who share our passion. Love what you do - do what you love. Join Tradebyte, an independent company within the Zalando Group!

THE ROLE AND THE TEAM

As an Engineering Manager for a core product area, you will lead a team of 5-8 engineers, building resilient backend services and high-throughput integrations at scale. With technical autonomy, you’ll solve complex engineering challenges and enhance our platform ecosystem. If you are driven by scalable systems, modern engineering practices, and people leadership, this is where you’ll make a real impact.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing software engineering team. You are dedicated to team success and sustainable delivery, technical quality, and the overall health and psychological safety of your team.

  • Hands-on Contribution: Actively contribute to technical design and implementation (~40% hands-on) to support your engineers in applying sound practices and to keep delivery speeds high.

  • Product Partnership: Collaborate closely with Product Management to translate customer needs and strategic objectives into clear, actionable delivery plans that maximise business impact.

  • Execution & Support: Collaborate to resolve technical and interpersonal challenges early. Break down complex problems into logical steps, enabling inclusive, pragmatic decisions within the team to maintain progress.

  • Community & Culture: Contribute to the wider Tradebyte engineering culture by actively participating in Communities of Practice, sharing post-mortem findings, and fostering knowledge exchange across teams.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

  • Experienced Leader & Engineer: Proven track record of leading and coaching high-performing software engineering teams, coupled with strong technical expertise in developing enterprise web applications (Java, Kotlin or Python).

  • Hands-on Leader Mentality: You are comfortable and willing to stay technically involved (~40% of your time) in design, architecture, or implementation to retain context and support team progress.

  • Cloud & Architecture: Solid experience working with AWS or other cloud platforms, with a track record of building and operating resilient, reliable services.

  • Pragmatic Decision Maker: Ability to make informed trade-offs balancing business value, effort, and technical debt, while relying on evidence and data rather than assumptions.

  • Clear Communicator: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. You can translate complex technical topics into simple terms for stakeholders and articulate delivery risks effectively.
