THE ROLE & THE TEAM
As an Engineering Manager, you will build and lead a team of exceptional software engineers to help us to scale our business, refine our systems, and innovate towards building Zalando’s own Transport Systems First Mile and Real Time Tracking, which serves Zalando’s 50MM+ customers with 30+ carriers across 25 Zalando markets in Europe. In the future, this platform will reduce the manual intervention of resources and enhance the opportunity for automation for better capacity steering, optimising delivery lead times and efficiency towards calculating delivery on promise. We are providing optimal and scalable solutions to support Zalando's growth strategy.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
You’ll build and lead high-performing engineering teams, fostering collaboration and driving excellence.
You'll develop and execute mid- & long-term technical vision and architectural direction along with Product and other engineering leaders to ensure solid product delivery.
You'll facilitate collaboration, communication and decision-making between cross-functional stakeholders to influence product strategy and drive the product development roadmap
You'll attract, hire, onboard, develop and retain diverse top talent to your team
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
You have experience leading and developing cross-functional engineering teams within an international, agile environment. You have effective communication skills in English, with an ability to understand and translate business and user requirements across teams
You have a solid background in software engineering with a strong understanding of core priorities, KPIs and underlying system architecture
You have experience in working with highly distributed, scalable and resilient microservices using REST APIs; knowledge of object-oriented and functional programming languages like Java, Kotlin, or Scala. Knowledge of SQL databases and frontend engineering are a plus.
You think creatively, are solution-oriented, adaptable to change, and have a drive for continuous innovation
You are responsible for maintaining trustful relationship with your team(s), leading them and setting a high standard as an example
