Identity and Access Management (IAM) is a cornerstone technology at Zalando, ensuring secure access to our e-commerce platform for employees, partners and contractors.
As a Software Engineer in the Builder Platform Identity & Access Management (IAM) team, you will contribute to the development of scalable, secure, and efficient solutions for authorization services. Working alongside a talented and diverse team, you’ll help to build and maintain key components of our IAM stack, including solutions based on Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Styra DAS, that serve a wide engineering community at Zalando.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
Develop, deploy, and improve software solutions with a focus on platform engineering, primarily using Java and occasionally Golang.
Collaborate with the team to implement APIs and integrated solutions for authorization services.
Participate in monitoring, alert definition, and on-call rotations, adhering to Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
Support the engineering community by providing developer-friendly tools and solutions around Open Policy Agent (OPA) for authorization.
Collaborate with infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration and performance of core IAM components.
Learn and share knowledge about IAM best practices and contribute to enhancing central policy libraries and systems.
WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
You have experience with microservices architecture, REST services, and API development.
You understand core security concepts and are familiar with JSON Web Tokens (JWT), OAuth2, and OpenID Connect protocols.
You are proficient in Java development (e.g., with frameworks like Spring Boot and Hexagonal architecture) and open to learning or using Golang.
You are comfortable deploying and operating applications in a cloud environment (AWS preferred) and have basic knowledge of PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
You are eager to grow your skills and enjoy solving challenges related to large-scale authorization services.
You thrive in a collaborative environment and communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken.
