As an Engineering Manager for the team, you will join our team in Berlin. Together with the team, you are responsible for operational excellence, building and scaling (a) the intelligence engine that powers the articles purchased by Lounge as well as (b) shaping the partner’s and buyer’s experience. We want to build products that make our partners successful within the context of Lounge’s commercial strategy while simplifying the work they need to do to be successful.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
Develop and execute mid- & long-term architectural vision and technical direction to create highly available and scalable solutions supporting the team and Zalando level objectives.
Set a high bar of engineering and operational excellence in terms of scalability, latency, observability and uptime.
Lead a tech team of 5-8 consisting of software engineers, facilitate collaboration, communication and decision-making between the engineering team, product managers and stakeholders. You partner with product managers, designers, engineering and architecture teams to influence product strategy and drive the product development roadmap
Create and drive a culture of innovation that welcomes new ideas and experimentation from anyone in your team. You help your team to understand customer problems and guide people on how to navigate a time-boxed experiment with a fail fast mindset.
Attract, onboard, develop and retain diverse top talents to your team and transform the landscape of Zalando’s B2C eCommerce platforms.
WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
A solid background in software engineering and system design that is based on event-driven, microservices architecture on top of Kubernetes and AWS.
Extensive experience in object-oriented and/or functional programming languages with a profound knowledge of REST APIs and highly distributed, scalable and resilient microservice environment.
A track record demonstrating your experience leading and developing cross-functional engineering teams within an international, agile environment.
Always optimizing for creating maximum business value - you are capable of making your teams accountable and responsible for the decisions made by providing a strong sense of ownership and a data-driven mindset with a strong understanding of core priorities and KPIs.
You have effective communication skills in English, with an ability to understand and translate business and user requirements across teams.
You think creatively, are solution oriented, adaptable to change, and have a drive for continuous innovation.
Responsible for maintaining a trustful relationship with your team, leading them and setting a high standard as an example.
BONUS SKILLS
You have a proven track record as an individual contributor.
You have experience leading teams across both backend and frontend.
You have established a team from scratch before.
You have past experience in the E-commerce industry.
