Zalando's Economics and Experimentation department seeks an experienced Engineering Manager to strategically scale our Experimentation Platform, ensuring it meets our evolving business needs.
The Experimentation Platform team is tasked with innovating and enhancing tools, systems, and processes that empower dozens of teams at Zalando to continuously test hypotheses and improve our products and services in a data-driven way. In this key role, your leadership will directly impact the evolution of Zalando's robust and trustworthy experimentation infrastructure, central to our data-driven decision-making process.
We seek a technically adept, results-oriented leader with a proven track record who can help build Zalando's next-generation experimentation platform.
As Engineering Manager, you will lead, grow and inspire a team to design, and develop our mission critical Experimentation Platform. In particular, this role will focus on the front-end and back-end of the experiment assignment, orchestration, and feature management components of our platform that we are in the process of modularizing. Your technical experience provides guidance and best practices to the team, which ensures the quality and timeliness of your deliveries. You will play a crucial role in championing and expanding Zalando's culture of innovation and experimentation, facilitating the long-term goal of ensuring every change released is underpinned by a tested experiment and ensuring accurate, high-quality data supports all informed decision-making.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
5+ years of engineering experience, including 2+ years in a technical management or leadership role. Experience in building and leading diverse engineering or data science teams is a plus.
Passionate about developing people as much as developing products and platforms, with a focus on fostering a strong engineering culture.
Exceptional communication skills, empathetic leadership, and a solution-oriented approach.
Hands-on experience with software engineering in web services and data systems and familiarity with scalable infrastructure technologies like Kafka and Kubernetes, frontend technologies, like React, and backend web service principles (e.g., RESTful services).
Strong understanding of system design, data flow, scalability considerations, and continuous integration/deployment processes. Knowledge of JVM-based languages (Java, Scala) is a plus.
Experience with A/B testing platforms, feature management/flags, statistical frameworks, and data governance.
You have a strong product sense and take pride in understanding your customers and helping them be successful.
Fluency in English and eagerness to learn in unfamiliar territories.
