Meet Gloriana Amador Gomez who is passionate about logistics

Meet Gloriana, originally from the beautiful land of the sloths, paradise beaches, and good coffee: Costa Rica. She leads the Supply Chain Planning & Analytics team for Zalando Fulfillment Solutions (ZFS).

Read about her passion for constant improvement, her advice for other women, and how working in Logistics always pushes her out of her comfort zone.

What team do you work in?

I work on the Supply Chain Planning & Analytics team for Zalando Fulfilment Solutions (ZFS).

What do you do / your team does at Zalando?

One of our main responsibilities is to forecast the movement of Partners’ goods within the Zalando Network. We inform the warehouses about how many items we expect to receive and ship to our customers so that they can plan their resources accordingly.

We are also responsible for distributing the Partner’s Inbound into the different Zalando warehouses with the goal of a balanced distribution that supports shorter customer delivery times and hence a good customer experience.

On the Analytics side, we are often working on deep analysis regarding Network topics and Partner performance, which we then use to make business decisions.

What do you like most about your job? What is the most exciting thing you worked on?

I have been working in Supply Chain for a while now (almost 8 years) and there are always new challenges. Last year offered a perfect example of how we need to adapt our processes rapidly to cope with external changes. One of the lessons we’ve learned is that the processes that we are building now should be scalable and agile — to adapt to the business needs and growth.

I am also a big fan of continuous learning, so my favorite part of my job is that it’s always pushing me out of your comfort zone and forces you to create new solutions to complex challenges. There is always room for improvement so you have to re-think, question, and test the processes every day using data.

We have different challenges so collaboration with multiple stakeholders is key to driving your work. And you get to learn different teams and business perspectives.

It is also never limited to Planning, we get to lead analyses needed in the business to drive accurate decision making, which stimulates your analytical and problem-solving skills.

Where do you see your work having an impact on customers / partners?

We support Partners’ growth in the Platform by reserving sufficient capacity in our warehouses to meet their targets. We also execute measures to improve their assortment availability to all Markets, which not only positively impacts the Partner but also our customers.

What is your passion? Has Zalando helped you pursue this?

Hard question. I think my passion is constant improvement, personally and professionally.

What is your favorite part about working at Zalando?

Zalando is an amazing place to work when you love logistics! Being part of the growth of ZFS and Zalando has been quite an incredible opportunity. I do have to say my favorite part has been the people, we have an amazing and talented team from whom I have learned a lot.

What do you like most about working in Customer Fulfillment/Logistics?

Within CuFu we have an amazing Womxn’s Network which promotes and supports the career development of womxn in Zalando. In the networking events, we have the opportunity to discuss and connect on similar challenges and share ideas and experiences. Personally, I feel really empowered after every session.

What advice would you give to other women willing to do what you do?

Get yourself involved in different projects and learn about different aspects of the business. Be willing to challenge yourself and others and when communicating always remember the 3Cs: Be clear, be confident, and be courageous!
