THE ROLE & THE TEAM
As a team sitting between the CFO and the business, Finance Performance Management doesn’t just report the news, we turn numbers into decisions that help write the next chapter. We are a lean, fast-moving team responsible for steering the company's financial health and ensuring our long-term strategy actually pencils out. We're looking for an intern for 6-months who is tired of theoretical textbook problems and wants to see how a large-scale, complex budget actually functions in the wild. You won't be fetching coffee; you'll be digging into our P&L, finding the "why" behind the variances, and helping us build the models that drive our executive decisions.
INCLUSIVE BY DESIGN
If you think you have what it takes, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every single requirement. You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles!
At Zalando, our vision is to be the leading pan-European ecosystem for fashion and lifestyle e-commerce – one that thrives on diversity and is truly inclusive by design. We believe that diverse teams fuel innovation and creativity, and we actively seek out talent from all backgrounds.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
Master the Month-End: You'll be right in the thick of our closing activities. You will take the lead, with guidance from your manager, on the first draft of our monthly "Actual vs. Budget" reports, identifying exactly where we overspent (or saved) and why it happened.
Build the Foundation for Forecasts: When we move into quarterly forecasting, you'll own the data prep. You'll update templates, consolidate inputs from various departments, and perform the initial quality checks before the numbers hit the Senior Manager's desk.
Budget Support: During the annual budget crunch, you'll be our "Input Lead", helping to manage the collection of data and ensuring that every figure submitted is validated and correctly mapped.
The "Data Source of Truth": You'll help maintain our KPI dashboards. This means ensuring the data flowing from our ERP into our reporting tools is clean, accurate, and ready for the CFO to see.
Process Automation: We hate manual work. You'll spend part of your time identifying inefficiencies in our existing models and finding ways to make them faster and smarter — whether that's through Excel macros, Power Query, or dashboard automation.
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
You live in Excel: You should be comfortable with Index/Match (or XLOOKUP), Pivot Tables, and logical formulas (IF statements are your best friends). You don't need to be a VBA wizard, but you should have a clean, structured modeling style.
You speak "Accounting-lite": You understand how the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statement talk to each other.
You are a "Data Detective" When a number looks wrong, you don't just ignore it; you have the curiosity to dig through the ledger until you find the source of the discrepancy.
You can tell a story with numbers You can take a table of data and turn it into a clear, well-structured output that a non-finance audience can act on. Whether it's a slide, a summary, or a dashboard, you think about the reader, not just the formula.
You're currently a Student or Recent Grad You're likely pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a quantitative field and are looking for 6 months of full-time immersion. Business-level English is required.
You can handle the "Grey" Finance isn't always black and white. We'd love to meet you if you can keep your cool when priorities shift or when data is messy.
