You will play a key role in building the data systems that drive critical business decisions, from improving customer experience to optimizing our operations. This isn't just about moving data; it's about building robust, scalable, and well-engineered solutions that empower our entire organization.
INCLUSIVE BY DESIGN
If you think you have what it takes, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every single requirement. You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles!
At Zalando, our vision is to be the leading pan-European ecosystem for fashion and lifestyle e-commerce – one that thrives on diversity and is truly inclusive by design. We believe that diverse teams fuel innovation and creativity, and we actively seek out talent from all backgrounds.
We actively seek to reduce bias in our hiring and employment processes, focusing on your qualifications, skills, and contributions. To support this, we kindly ask that you refrain from including personal details such as your photo, age, or marital status in your CV, ensuring a fair and equitable evaluation based solely on your abilities and potential.
We are committed to providing an exceptional and accessible candidate experience for everyone. If you require any accommodations to support you throughout the hiring process, please let us know – we are here to assist you.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
Design and build scalable data pipelines: You'll use your software engineering expertise to design, develop, and maintain high-quality data pipelines that transform data from diverse sources into reliable data products. These products will be the backbone for critical business functions like defect reduction, operational analysis, and tracking the impact of our automation initiatives.
Contribute to a culture of technical excellence: You’ll be an active participant in code reviews, leveraging modern tools and industry best practices to ensure our solutions are robust, secure, and performant. Your contributions will help us raise the bar for the entire team through a focus on clean code, thorough testing, and comprehensive documentation.
Solve complex problems with data: You'll collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders, using your strong analytical skills to translate business needs into technical requirements. You'll move beyond simple ETL to truly understand the data and build solutions that deliver meaningful, actionable insights.
Own the full lifecycle: From development to deployment and ongoing maintenance, you will own the full lifecycle of your code. This includes participating in operational duties like monitoring service health, diagnosing issues, and proactively identifying improvements to prevent future incidents.
Empower others with data: You'll play a role in creating data products that are intuitive and reliable, enabling non-technical users to make data-informed decisions with confidence.
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
Software Engineering: You have a solid foundation in software engineering principles, with at least 3 years of experience in data or software engineering. You are comfortable writing clean, well-tested, and performant code, with advanced proficiency in SQL and at least one other programming language (Python preferred).
Analytical Thinking: You don’t just process data; you think critically about it. You have a proven ability to analyze complex datasets, identify patterns, and creatively solve problems to deliver meaningful insights. You are invested in data quality, and concepts like lineage, governance, and privacy are a core part of your professional ethos.
A Collaborative Teammate: You are a true team player who believes in the power of collective effort over individual heroics. You are willing to mentor others, share knowledge, and actively contribute to the growth and success of the team.
A Problem Solver: You are a natural troubleshooter, with a track record of diagnosing and resolving data issues and outages. You are prepared to participate in on-call rotations and lead post-mortems to ensure continuous improvement.
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent practical experience.
