The Fashion Analysis & Insights department is the strategic partner to the commercial heart of Zalando. We empower our Commercial (eg, Merchandising and Buying) teams with the data and insights they need to make critical investment decisions for an assortment that serves over 52 million customers. Your mandate is twofold: to democratize data and generate insights that drive our business forward. This is a high-stakes management role, as you and your team will be the most important business partners to our commercial leaders, providing the critical insights they need to make decisions.

As the Team Lead for Reporting &  Insights, you won't just manage a team; you will transform it. Your mission is to cultivate an "AI-first" culture, leading a team of seven talented colleagues on a journey to become proactive partners who solve complex business problems with cutting-edge technology. This is a greenfield opportunity to be a "builder"—use new technology to generate insights from the ground up, with the full support of Zalando’s world-class engineering and data communities.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

  • Lead with a Hands-On Approach. This is a "player-coach" role where you will dedicate significant time to hands-on guidance. You will lead, mentor, and upskill a high-performing team, fostering their growth in SQL, Python, Databricks, and AI applications to raise the bar for the entire function.

  • Forge Trusted Commercial Partnerships. You are the most important partner for our commercial teams. You will work alongside Merchandising and Buying leaders not just to answer their questions, but to proactively challenge assumptions and shape commercial strategy with data-driven insights.

  • Champion an AI-First Vision. You will empower your team to accelerate and automate their work by embracing AI coding assistants, LLMs, and agentic workflows. You will be the bridge to Zalando's central AI teams, ensuring your team can leverage internal platforms to serve stakeholder needs effectively.

  • Drive the Reporting and Insights Roadmap. You excel at transforming business questions into data queries with actionable answers. You will define the strategic roadmap for your team, manage a variety of high-impact projects, and democratize data for hundreds of users through scalable, easy-to-use reporting solutions

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

  • You have a proven track record of 7+ years in commercial analytics, data science, or a related field, with at least 2+ years of experience managing and developing data teams in a digital environment.

  • You are a passionate "player-coach" leader who thrives in a hands-on role. You have the technical credibility to personally guide a team using SQL, and work with modern data stack technologies like Databricks, dbt, and Python.

  • You possess strong business acumen with a deep understanding of the economics and commercial KPIs of online platforms and/or fashion e-commerce, which is a must. You hold a university degree in a quantitative field like Economics, Finance, or a comparable subject.

  • You are proficient in data visualisation best practices and tools (e.g., Tableau, MicroStrategy, Looker), with a passion for building scalable reporting solutions that democratize data for hundreds of users.

  • You are a genuine AI enthusiast, intellectually curious about leveraging Generative AI, LLMs, and machine learning to solve real-world business challenges.

  • You are a master communicator and storyteller, able to translate complex analytical concepts into compelling insights that convince any audience and enable decision-making. You have excellent stakeholder management skills to work effectively with different levels of management.
