THE ROLE & THE TEAM
As part of the “Design x Content” department, we are looking for a Senior Principal Product Designer. In this leadership role, you will oversee and create customer solutions for both the Propositions as well as the Size & Fit organisation. The role is an Individual Contributor but with the same seniority as a Head of Design. You will report to Gloria Rupprecht.
The Proposition Teams are responsible for building remarkable experiences that speak to the unique customer needs when shopping specific Zalando assortments, such as Sports, Beauty, Kids, Recommerce, and Designer. Each of these propositions requires deep customer understanding and encourages solutions that truly match their needs and enhance the credibility of the category.
In the Size & Fit organisation, you will have the opportunity to enhance our customers' experience by enabling them to find the right size and fit on their first attempt, through collaborating with our partners and internal teams. You will drive foundational work in the fit space, ensuring seamless interaction among different products and a deep understanding of their relation to our assortment and customer mix.
As a Senior Principal Product Designer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end experience across all touchpoints and are expected to drive market-leading innovation that drives further interest and loyalty with customers as well as enables successful brand partnerships. You will operate in a collaborative environment with Product, Engineering, Applied Science and company-wide stakeholders, balancing the inputs and needs of many. Being embedded in the design community, you will help shape and benefit from our mature community of practice.
This role requires a visionary leader and expert in customer-facing product development to drive the product strategy and vision in line with Zalando Group goals and to shape and deliver against an actionable roadmap. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in e-commerce, and a passion for creating seamless and engaging user experiences.

You will define, design and oversee deliverables, ensuring cross-functional product teams have everything they need to build the innovative solutions you envision.
You will drive customer insights for projects, navigating through both defined and ambiguous challenges. You'll devise research strategies, determine relevant data collection methods, and evaluate the significance of the problems at hand.
As a customer-focused design thought leader and role model, you will contribute to the Zalando Product Design community and the larger European design industry by sharing best practices, mentoring and teaching colleagues, crafting best-in-class solutions, bar-raising in design reviews, and sparking inspiring conversations.
You partner with design management and work with executive leaders. You spearhead design initiatives, design ops workstreams, and advances in product development practices.
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
You have at least 7 years of product design experience, working on ambiguous strategic projects with a passion for innovation.
You bring excellent design craft to nimbly make the customer experience vision tangible as well as to provide bar-raising feedback for your senior design colleagues.
You have a solid range of design skills in your ever growing toolkit–including user research, workshop facilitation, UX and UI design–to ensure fluid and holistic customer journeys.
You are able to cultivate focus amid uncertainty and communicate your perspective clearly in a spoken or written way.
You love designing innovative data-products that place humans at the centre to ensure that geeky tech and forward-looking experience design always serves a real human need.
You have experience envisioning and delivering experiences that are remarkable and scalable by working in cross-functional teams and by partnering with varied stakeholders
You will have a competitive edge if you bring experience in Beauty, Sports, Kids, Recommerce or Designer
You take an active interest in market trends and technologies
