Senior Software Engineer - Event Streaming as a Service
As part of the Event Streaming team you will be improving, extending, and operating Zalando’s core Event Streaming Platform. The platform enables all development teams to communicate at scale between services and builds the bridge to the central data lake. Built on top of Apache Kafka, the Event Streaming Platform provides a fast and efficient solution to many of Zalando’s application developers. You will help to continuously improve the user experience, cost efficiency and reliability of our products.
WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
Good software engineering skills and fundamental knowledge of engineering principals across the software development life cycle
Display ownership for our services from problem formulation, inception to solution design, as well as delivery and operations
Closely collaborate with Product Management (and other roles) to refine the functional requirements and build test cases to be verified during development and feature release
Suggest and drive solutions that simplify the technical architecture of individual services or pay down technical debt
Openness to grow less experienced engineers and new joiners
Live operational excellence, including deployment automation, observability and general resilience of our platform products
Support Zalando developers in effectively using our platform services through documentation, support requests, training, etc.
Investigate issues in software, libraries, and cloud infrastructure
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF YOU
+5 years of recent industry experience as a systems or software engineer
Production grade knowledge in Java coupled with excellent general software engineering skills, Go and Python is a puls
Experience with Apache Kafka, Kafka Streams, Apache Flink and similar event streaming systems
Experience in designing distributed systems or microservices
Experience in REST API design
Experience building and running large-scale distributed systems
AWS knowledge and/or Kubernetes experience is a plus
