THE ROLE & THE TEAM
As a Senior Packaging Engineer (all genders) in our Packaging R&D Team, you'll develop new unpacking experiences that reconcile operational efficiency in our warehouses and with carrier partners, an exceptional customer experience, and sustainability. You'll rethink our current customer-facing and intralogistics packaging, optimizing existing solutions or designing new, scalable ones. This includes supporting the discovery, design, and delivery of packaging for new product categories. You'll work closely with our supply partners and internal stakeholders, always keeping a strong focus on our customers and the planet.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)...
Drive business growth by identifying opportunities for new sustainable packaging solutions, developing robust preliminary business cases, and effectively presenting them to senior leadership for approval.
Serve as the lead technical expert for packaging development projects, clearly communicating technical opportunities and challenges to diverse stakeholders like Marketing, Logistics Operations, Market Research, and Category Management.
Engage with our suppliers, manufacturers and logistics service providers as well as universities and start-ups to identify trends and collaboration opportunities
Actively shape the long-term strategic roadmap for packaging innovation and development across Zalando Group packaging.
Take ownership of identifying and implementing packaging solutions that generate cost savings and efficiencies across the entire supply chain.
Act as a primary technical expert and informal mentor within the Logistics Sustainability & Packaging team, providing guidance and support on complex technical challenges and best practices to colleagues.
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF…
You hold a degree with a focus on Packaging Engineering (Material science expertise is a plus), Industrial engineering, Logistics Engineering or comparable education and a proven track record of developing and launching new packaging or services within Logistics or Supply Chain.
You have relevant professional experience designing new customer propositions and getting sign off from senior stakeholders to bring physical products from ideation to production to hand over for scaling. Experience working for a packaging supplier is a plus.
You possess a design-driven and customer-centric mindset: experience running user research and creating business cases is ideal.
You support strategic relationships with key packaging suppliers at a senior level, influencing their roadmaps and ensuring their capabilities align with Zalando's goals.
You apply analytical thinking to solve complex problems with potential trade-offs between cost, customer experience, sustainability.
You possess excellent English verbal and written communications skills (German is a plus)
