THE ROLE & THE TEAM

We are looking for a Head of Learning & Leadership Development to shape the Development and Growth of Zalando’s talent end-to-end. This role will set the course for Zalandos learning experiences and ensure our colleagues’ development needs are addressed through a blend of engaging learning content. The role reports into the Director Performance & Growth and acts as a trusted advisor to our key stakeholders on executive- and employee representation level. The team (~10) is located in Berlin, Germany, and the role requires weekly onsite presence as Zalando operates with a hybrid working model.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

  • Working backwards from our 2028 business strategy, you are responsible for defining and implementing our Learning strategy. You will deploy the right means to build required capabilities across the business through targeted upskilling and reskilling initiatives. 

  • You evolve our Learning offerings to reflect state-of-the-art adult learning using contemporary, forward-looking products and technologies. 

  • You continue expanding our Leadership Development portfolio to equip our leaders with the right capabilities to lead high-performing teams – from entry-level leads to senior executives – and ensure offerings are aligned with strategic capability shifts for each cohort. 

  • You develop, source, pilot and deploy targeted Top Talent and Senior Leadership Development programmes to support them in key transition moments. 

  • You own our centralised Learning Governance Framework and work closely with local Academies to ensure a seamless and consistent learning experience for all Zalandos. You support our BU learning teams on the journey to an aligned strategy and operating model.

  • You transform our L&D landscape, introducing new learning products and evolving our expert capabilities as part of our People & Organisation Transformation.

  • You build the right organisational set-up, governance and infrastructure to enhance the learning experience for all customer groups across Zalando. 

  • You work closely with other P&O product domains (e.g. Talent Management, Diversity & Inclusion, Health & Wellbeing) to ensure all programs and initiatives are connected, and contribute to an integrated end-user experience. 

  • You contribute as a functional expert to Works Council negotiations on L&D initiatives and related products and processes.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

  • You have 10+ years of experience in leading learning organisations/solutions from philosophy to strategy, including implementation planning and execution. 

  • You have a thorough understanding of the learning strategy project phases, from gathering requirements and planning, designing and procuring learning experiences, delivering experiences and learning products, through evaluating effectiveness and impact.

  • You are technology-savvy and can design learning solutions at scale, using Workday as your technology backbone. 

  • You have led leadership transformation programs in other organisations and have experience in leading skilling programmes on the back of capability shifts required by business strategy. 

  • You demonstrate subject matter expertise in talent practices with a core focus on L&D and are able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, from P&O Business Partners to C-level executives. You offer thought leadership based on latest research and industry best practices. 

  • You enjoy solving problems, with a passion for delivering exceptional levels of customer service. You rely on data analysis to translate meaningful insights and develop a strategy. 

  • You possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to articulate concepts, ideas, and processes with senior stakeholders.

  • You demonstrate values-driven leadership and build an inclusive, empowering and high-performing team culture. 

  • You are business fluent in English; knowledge of German is a plus but not mandatory.

  • Experience in coaching / 360 / Hogan is a plus.
