THE ROLE & THE TEAM

Lounge by Zalando is the growth engine of Zalando group. Every day, through our flash sale shopping club model, we surprise and delight customers with fashion and lifestyle items that they love, while providing brand partners with a profitable way of clearing their overstock. As Sr. Principal Product Manager in the Off-price Data Platform & AI organisation, you will be at the helm of a product organisation whose mandate is to provide tools, algorithms, and data to enable us to offer the right product to the right customer, at the right place and time, at the right price. In your role, you will build new platforms and capabilities to support data-driven decision-making along the end-to-end assortment life cycle. Together with your partner teams of applied scientists, software engineers, economists, commercial experts, and product peers you will be responsible for shaping the future of assortment steering and optimisation at Lounge. Our pricing, personalisation, and forecasting teams have already delivered double-digit percentage improvements in revenue and profit. We’re looking for a hands-on product leader who can build on this momentum and help us transform into a platform. This is a pivotal role in the team to help us shift focus towards AI investments to support step-change improvements in our business model.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

  • Together with the department VP, set the direction for a multidisciplinary and heavily tech and science focused organisation of ~70 FTE. Set a clear vision, smart roadmap and ambitious targets, and enable the teams to drive towards those.

  • Identify new product opportunities with a customer-centric mindset, select the right solutions to focus on based on sound business cases and execute on these with speed and agility. Stay on top of what’s happening in the industry as well as Zalando.

  • Guide teams working in the buying, pricing, and assortment steering domains to define, build, and launch scalable data-driven and/or scientific software solutions and capabilities with high business impact. 

  • Apply repeatable best practice product methodologies in cross-functional teams incorporating working backwards from the customer, problem discovery, defining & designing solutions, and delivering agreed outcomes.

  • Be a mentor to other colleagues by showcasing deep expertise in your domain and acting as a bar raiser for successful product management within the department, business unit, and company.

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

  • Product methods & tools: you have experience working closely with cross-functional teams in data science, engineering, and analytics to bring data and AI driven solutions and capabilities from early stage discovery to production, ideally in an online service marketplace or e-commerce environment. You have a credible track record of developing and driving product strategy. 

  • Customer mindset: you have the ability to understand customer needs and turn them into remarkable products. You are experienced in conducting insights with user research and product discovery to provide the voice of the customer, creating the right stories that give our users what they need (and not just what they want).

  • Commercial acumen: your primary customers will be the commercial teams that steer the business on a daily basis leveraging the tools and algorithms you develop. As such, strong commercial acumen is a must-have.

  • Stakeholder management: you are a clear and concise communicator and have experience effectively managing a diverse range of stakeholders up to VP level.

  • Driven by impact: you thrive on driving impact and speed, and are happiest when you’re delivering frequently, early, and often. At the same time, you don’t shy away from big rock opportunities that take on the order of years to deliver, and are adept at breaking these down into meaningful, shippable, milestones. You bring an entrepreneurial, practical, test & learn mindset to the table.
