As the Head of Product Sustainability at Zalando your role is to interpret our corporate Net Zero and Decent Work goals into strategies that can be adopted by the leaders who are responsible for our fashion and lifestyle propositions. This means you inform both the company’s approach to the environmental impact of our product offering as well as addressing how we influence the working conditions of our direct and indirect manufacturing supply chains.

You lead a team of sustainability experts whose roles are to understand the complexity of the sustainability ecosystem and translate this into clear guidance for our business. With your own expert knowledge and industry experience, you support them to turn their deep knowledge into initiatives and business decisions that meaningfully advance our sustainability agenda. You are a recognized expert capable of guiding internal stakeholders and representing Zalando’s work externally.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Defining and implementing Zalando’s product sustainability strategies with a special focus on products with lower environmental impacts as well as sourcing practices that promote ethical responsibility.

• Leading the team of product sustainability experts that inform decisions and co-create strategies that prioritise less impactful sourcing strategies.

• Deciding how to introduce new complex product sustainability topics to the business that drive action.

• Providing expert guidance to internal stakeholders including Vice Presidents and product portfolio directors to adopt strategies that reduce their environmental and human rights impacts.

• Collaborating with public policy, legal and reporting teams to create strategies that find opportunities in existing and upcoming sustainability regulation.

• Enabling industry progress via collaboration with brand partners, participation in industry initiatives and engagement with governments and NGOs.

• Monitoring emerging global product sustainability trends, innovation and regulation directions.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• You have 10-15+ years industry experience which includes sustainability, sourcing or a related field.

• You have a strong track record in leading and developing people.

• You have strong knowledge of product sustainability with a good understanding of the EU sustainability regulation and policy landscape.

• You have a proven track record of successfully implementing strategies across large businesses.

• You can provide well thought through solutions based on data analysis.

• You have excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to work across multiple business units, align goals and drive overall success independent of organisational boundaries.

• You possess excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complexity into clarity.
