Senior Media Engineer - Brand Marketing (All Genders)

Zalando’s Media Team within the Marketing department is looking for a Senior Media Engineer (Full stack developer). Working collaboratively with the media product team, you will play a crucial role in developing automation tools to launch high-budget brand awareness and consideration campaigns. This position is an integral part of our in-house Media team and will report to the Engineering Manager.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

  • You will be tasked with developing and improving internal tools and products that are associated with advertising systems. 

  • Your main objective will be to optimize campaigns and automate creative procedures.

  • In order to transform data and establish custom databases that link to advertising platforms and generate real-time ads, you will be required to work with various internal and external APIs. These external APIs include graphAPI (Meta), Google Drive API, Google DV360 API, YouTube API, TikTok API, and more.

  • Additionally, you will collaborate with various engineering teams to extract webshop data from internal APIs such as Nakadi into the custom database to tie all data together to build real time ads.

  • To illustrate, a project you may work on involves constructing a specialized database that contains details about all products available on the website, encompassing all essential data that is displayed in our ads. This database will be linked to several platforms (meta, google, dv360, tiktok, etc.) to ensure that the ads are continuously updated with real-time information. Using this data, you will have the ability to create highly targeted ads that have a significant impact on the business unit objectives.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in full-stack development: a tech stack that includes Python (or Golang, NodeJS,  JVM language) for backend, and ReactJS for frontend. 

  • Knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL) with a solid knowledge of SQL language.

  • Analytical tools (Google Analytics, Microstrategy, BigQuery), including experience with their API.

  • Proficient version control system experience (Git).

  • Experience with cloud based deployment and development (AWS, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Containerisation).

  • Knowledge of RestAPI, GraphQL.

  • At least basic knowledge of ML/AI approaches and tools.

  • Experience in Software/Solution Architecture; experience with building high-load systems is a plus.

  • Previous experience in working with various advertising systems (Facebook, Google ads, DV360, Smartly) is a plus.

Soft skills: A successful full-stack developer should possess both technical and soft skills, including being a self-starter, quick learner, highly motivated team player with strong interpersonal and time management skills, and empathy towards end-users and stakeholders. These skills are essential for working on multiple projects simultaneously while delivering quality work and contributing to the success of their team and organization. 

Product Methodologies: As someone who is well-versed in agile software development methodologies, specifically Scrum Sprint, you possess the ability to create a product roadmap and collaborate with stakeholders to achieve the desired business outcomes. Your product development approach considers technology, design, and client needs in equal measure, ensuring that the end product is both functional and user-friendly.

Analytical Skills: Your expertise lies in prioritizing the product backlog using both qualitative and quantitative data, and enabling the product team to track relevant metrics that inform a data-driven product strategy.
