THE ROLE & THE TEAM
For 2026, we are opening a new Engineering Manager role in Content Solutions to reflect our growing scope and transition to a group capability. This is a super exciting role where, as a leader of this function, you will bridge the gap between cutting-edge 3D technology and commercial scalability. You will be part of Content Solutions Tech, the team responsible for the tooling that gets visual material in front of Zalando’s customers—from processing thousands of products a day and tracking millions of samples to serving millions of customers with a rich 3D experience.
You will lead the Cat 3D team (3 to 4 engineers) with end-to-end accountability for the consumer-facing 3D experience, and oversee the DeepAR team, a 100% Zalando-owned business of 25 people (including 15 engineers) covering CX web engineering, 3D viewer/scanner technology, and AI-based workflow platforms. We operate internal tooling at massive scale but care passionately about the user experience; as one stranger noted, "I can’t believe your internal tools look so good, they are like consumer products." In this role, you'll support the strategic plans of the Content Solutions division while helping to build a European ecosystem for fashion and lifestyle commerce.

Define the Blueprint: Shape the strategy for a next-generation B2B Content-as-a-Service platform, enabling partners to monetize and integrate content generation capabilities.
Drive Consumer ROI: Solve the '3C Problem'—delivering the Right Content to the Right Consumer in the Right Category—to optimize transactional value for 70M consumers.
Engineer the Logic: Beyond "building the pipes," you will engineer the logic that decides whether a user sees a 3D viewer, a Try On, a video, or an image across the entire User Journey.
Integrate DeepAR Technology: Lead the next integration phase to enable DeepAR technology to work seamlessly across Zalando’s apps, web, and backend systems.
Implement a 'Dual-Track' Model: Balance rapid prototyping for continuous A/B experimentation with the robust engineering needed to integrate winning formats into the core Zalando architecture.
Manage Partnerships: Provide oversight and manage the relationship with our acquired 3D engineering team from DeepAR.
Lead Headless Services: Drive the development of headless content services for our partner platforms and business units like Zeos and Zalando Media Services.
Ensure Operational Excellence: Take accountability for the 24/7 operations of 3D and AR plugins and the E2E 3D experience on the Zalando PDP (Web, iOS, Android).

You are a Proven Leader: You have engineering leadership experience in complex technical environments and a bias to action that drives clarity and unblocks teams.
You are a Systems Thinker: You can hold context across multiple teams, codebases, and organizational boundaries to spot gaps and see the whole picture.
You Understand Sophisticated Systems: You can reason about pipelines, APIs, and media infrastructure (3D or graphics technology experience is a plus but not required).
You Have a Strong Technical Foundation: You are familiar with React, React Native, Backend technologies, and 3D rendering.
You Excel in Multi-Site Environments: You have experience working across different locations and aligning with wide-reaching engineering teams (e.g., Outfit Builder, Feed, Catalog).
You are Agile-Fluent: You have a good understanding of Scrum ceremonies, cadence, and team responsibilities.
You Value Observability: You have knowledge of observability tools and managing operational support (e.g., 24/7, on-call).
You are Mobile: You are based in Berlin (or willing to be) and are happy to travel to Zagreb periodically.
