As an Engineer in the Design Fundamentals team in Berlin, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of our Design System and help us build and maintain our UI framework, components, and toolings.

Our goal is to support other product teams in being more productive and more focused on improving the user experience and business performance through a set of well structured and reusable components.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING

  • You will tackle this challenge by helping our design system to evolve and working closely with experienced designers and product owners; turning design concepts into responsive, accessible, and satisfying experiences for our customers; build, test, and deploy automation; providing tooling support (CLI and web); and last but not least, top-notch coding to deliver high quality experiences with performance, maintainability, accessibility, and stability as primary focus.

  • Empower engineers across Zalando to build responsive, accessible, and satisfying experiences with minimal effort.

  • Consult product engineering teams on best practises for UX/UI development.

  • Making a positive impact on our engineering culture, encouraging knowledge-sharing and driving technical discussions within and outside the team and the company.

  • Challenge existing practices by being eager to discuss your thoughts with the professional community.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

  • A skilled software engineer with a strong background in computer science and JavaScript/TypeScript software development. Mastery of HTML, CSS, and React, including solving cross-browser/platform UI compatibility issues. Work experience with component libraries and design systems is a plus

  • Proficiency in debugging and profiling web apps. Understanding of browser and JavaScript internals for high performance code.

  • Work experience with React Native and universal component libraries is a plus.

  • Passion for user-experience with a keen eye for accessibility and inclusivity issues.
