ABOUT THE ROLE & THE TEAM

About the Brand Design Team
The Brand Design team at Zalando creates visual tools and experiences that build connections, inspire, and engage both internal and external audiences. We achieve this by crafting a compelling visual, written, and spoken language, and telling impactful stories through concepts, copy, and design. Our mission is to push the Zalando brand forward by ensuring creative excellence in all communications and visuals across the company.

About the Identity Team
The Identity Team is dedicated to shaping the Zalando brand as a whole. We define visual identities and create distinct design systems that differentiate core brand propositions and special moments. In this role, you will drive visual ideation and concept development to translate brand attributes into clear, actionable guidelines and toolkits. As a specialist in the commercial off-product environment, you will consult on brand mechanics across static, print, spatial, motion, and digital media.

As the lead identity designer for commercial moments, you'll be responsible for defining design systems that maintain brand consistency across the consumer journey—ensuring visual integrity from static assets to dynamic experiences. You will lead sprints that innovate and evolve the brand experience through our core design elements.

Reporting Structure & Key Responsibilities
This role reports directly to the Head of Brand Design (Executive Creative Director) who will provide overall strategic direction, performance goals, and day-to-day guidance. Guided by their leadership and creative direction, you will contribute to the continuous evolution of Zalando’s visual architecture, ensuring it stays consistent, impactful, and aligned with our strategic goals. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with internal teams, identity agencies, in-house brand and product designers, and key stakeholders across the organization to drive this vision forward.

You will also consult with global and local agencies, as well as work alongside Art Directors, Copywriters, and Visual Merchandisers. In addition, you’ll act as a creative consultant for the development and rollout of brand toolkits that support campaigns and activations across Europe. You will play a crucial role in ensuring brand assets remain aligned with Zalando’s overarching vision while enabling high-impact, market-leading campaigns.

WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND KEEP DOING):

  • Support the creation and evolution of Zalando’s visual architecture, ensuring it remains consistent across all touchpoints.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including identity agencies, internal designers, and creative stakeholders, to develop visual systems and toolkits.

  • Act as a key advisor and consultant on brand mechanics across multiple formats—static, print, spatial, motion, and digital.

  • Support the design and implementation of brand strategies for commercial moments, helping teams ensure visual coherence across the on- and off-product consumer journey.

  • Innovate and evolve the brand experience by leading design sprints, pushing creative boundaries while staying true to brand values.

  • Provide creative direction and consultation (when needed) to external agencies, ensuring all outputs align with Zalando’s brand standards and strategic goals.

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF...

  • Experience: 10+ years of experience as a Senior Designer within a creative design team. Prior experience in fashion, lifestyle, or consumer-facing brands is a plus. At least 5+ years as a lead designer (ACD) driving creative concepts and managing design teams.

  • Design Expertise: A contemporary visual design background with extensive experience across brand, and digital product design. Expertise in design systems, brand architecture, platform design, and key channels such as print, SoMe (Social Media), Display, and CRM.

  • Motion and Interactive Media: Knowledge of moving pictures, interactive media, and motion design e.g., storyboarding is highly valued.

  • Collaborative and Process-Driven: Highly organized, process-oriented, and a team player, with a keen eye for quality and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Communication Skills: Fluent in English, with strong verbal, visual, written, and presentation communication skills.

  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Figma. Knowledge of storyboarding for video, special design, and motion graphics is a plus.
