The Senior Policy Manager role is a key position within our Design, Marketing, & Content (DMC) business and tech function, dedicated to delivering exceptional and inspiring experiences for Zalando’s customers. As a pioneering leader in Trust & Safety at Zalando, you’ll play a pivotal role as we scale user- and creator-generated content, ensuring we protect users, meet regulatory standards, and uphold Zalando’s reputation and public trust. We seek a strategic and influential leader with a passion for safety, adept at navigating complex, fast-paced environments. With your expertise in policy development, risk mitigation, and cross-functional collaboration, you will significantly advance Zalando’s commitment to creating a safe and trustworthy experience for millions of users across 25 European markets.
WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING):
Own, implement, and refine policies and guidelines that create a safe, inclusive, and engaging experience for all Zalando users, creators, and partners.
Continuously evaluate policy effectiveness using a balanced approach that combines quantitative metrics with qualitative insights, making data-informed improvements to maintain relevance and impact.
Apply quantitative data and sound judgement to make swift, high-stakes decisions on complex policy and crisis issues, ensuring decisions are consistent, clear, and aligned with Zalando’s values.
Identify and proactively address areas of emerging risk, conducting in-depth analyses and advocating for policy adjustments as needed.
Engage in cross-functional collaboration with teams in Operations, Product, Legal, Compliance, and Analytics to drive both immediate and long-term objectives for content moderation, legal and regulatory compliance.
Serve as a policy representative in internal company meetings and external speaking engagements on behalf of the company.
Shape and contribute to the broader Trust & Safety strategy and vision, regularly presenting well-supported recommendations to senior leadership.
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF:
You’re proud of your degree (Bachelor, Master, MBA) in political science, government, communications, law, or a related field, OR your analogous real-world experience.
You have 5+ years of relevant work experience in policy development at an e-commerce company or marketplace, specifically handling issues like copyright, regulated goods, etc.
You have a proven track record of developing and implementing effective policies and processes, with a strong understanding of safety principles and risk management.
You can quickly identify problems, thoroughly analyse them, and deliver feasible policy solutions.
You possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in stakeholder engagement and advocacy.
You thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and driving results under tight deadlines.
Your oral and written English is business fluent.
