ABOUT THE TEAM

Zalando Marketing Service (ZMS) stands for a new era of marketing in e-commerce. The company helps partners to shape love brands, create strong customer relationships, and accelerate their business, by integrating data-infused and inspirational marketing. ZMS enables fashion, beauty and lifestyle partners to engage with ~50 million active customers across 25 European markets on Zalando and beyond, and provides access to exclusive fashion and lifestyle audiences. Based on deep customer insights, smart marketing tools, assortment and content creation expertise across >50K campaigns, ZMS drives the marketing and sales impact of its partners seamlessly along the path to purchase, from brand awareness, to consideration and conversion.

Team Audiences is responsible for building and maintaining our customer segmentation platform. We leverage advanced data processing techniques and custom machine learning solutions to enhance the precision and impact of the targeted marketing campaigns at Zalando Marketing Services.

As a data engineer, you will be part of the core team that designs, develops and operates our segmentation platform. The technical scope covers large-scale batch processing, ETL, managing cloud resources and data analysis.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of Engineers, Product Managers, Analysts, and Applied Scientists to ideate, design and build our audience builder platform.

  • Refine and evolve our batch-processing pipelines, ensuring efficiency and scalability.

  • Own your code and participate in operational duties, including monitoring and maintaining service health and performance.

  • Contribute to maintaining code quality and best practices, including active participation in code reviews.

  • Contribute to system design and help us build robust data systems.

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF:

  • You have some experience in building and operating data processing pipelines at scale. We currently use Airflow as our scheduler and Spark as our processing engine.

  • You have a solid foundation in software engineering and are comfortable writing clean, testable and performant code.

  • You have hands-on experience with a public cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP) and are comfortable deploying to container-first CI/CD pipelines.

  • You are proficient in SQL, Python and Scala/Java.

  • You are invested in data quality. Concepts like data lineage, governance and privacy are not just buzzwords, but are crucial to your professional ethos.
