THE ROLE & THE TEAM
The Search Engine Optimisation Team is responsible for optimising the ranking positions of Zalando landing pages on all major Search Engines. We aim to provide our customers the optimal landing destination for their search demand. In order to achieve this we constantly review and improve our search term set in all our markets Zalando operates in.
To provide a scalable solution, Machine Learning and data-driven solutions will play a pivotal role. We need Applied Scientists who are fueled by the desire to build innovative and impactful scientific and data driven products for our SEO business. You will join an existing team of Global SEO managers, Software Engineers and work in close collaboration with our Product Manager.
The team is working to rapidly develop greenfield ML and LLM solutions that integrate into our existing service platform. Primarily to improve- or help our SEO managers to improve keyword discovery, content creation and internal linking. Your models, optimization solutions and data analysis will generate key insights for our team and partners to enable them to make data-driven decisions about the growth opportunities in a challenging market environment. You will have a key role in an important marketing team and have an opportunity to contribute to our existing projects as well as shape our future direction.

Work closely together with our Product Manager & SEO managers to identify our customers key needs and the most valuable use cases to address in our area using your experience as an Applied Scientist.
Research, design and optimization solutions that will help our team make informed decisions about their investment areas and how it affects their SEO growth options.
Define and monitor key performance metrics to measure our models’ and solutions’ performance and their evolution over time.
Collaborate with the Data Engineers to Identify and consolidate the department data sources - helping us develop a strong foundation for our Applied Science data solutions.
Mentoring Junior Applied Scientist and support colleagues on their career progression towards a Applied Scientist
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF…
- Educational background in a quantitative field
- 5+ years of experience solving applied scientific problems with 2+ years in the industry
- You balance technical acumen with business understanding and excel in collaborating with product and business stakeholders to identify new product opportunities and drive existing use cases
- Experience developing applied science or operations research solutions for production environments
- Comfortable using Python and with the ML software development lifecycle
- Industry demonstrated knowledge and skills in at least one the following areas
- Machine Learning Engineering (service design, batch processing, GPU computing, git, docker, CI/CD, software testing)
- Machine Learning/Operations Research/Statistics (forecasting techniques, mathematical optimization, causal inference, inventory optimization)
- An entrepreneurial mindset, you value a diverse and fast-paced business environment, and hence balance your passion for research with pragmatism to drive actions and create impact for our customers.
