THE ROLE & THE TEAM
As a Data Engineer in our central Data Management department, you will focus on the implementation and operation of data lake services and tools that are the foundations of the analytical capabilities at Zalando. By constantly challenging the status quo, you and your team deliver high-performance near real time big data platform solutions that are efficient and reliable at scale.
Your key focus would be to build customer centric, secure, scalable and efficient data extraction and storage solutions making Zalando’s petabytes of data easily re-usable and accessible to all our internal users.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
Work within Zalando's central data repository team providing mission-critical data services for the whole Zalando group
Design and build the service that will serve analysts, data engineers and machine learning pipelines all over Zalando
Enhance and deliver object storage capabilities of the data platform systems to ensure compliance with GDPR and antitrust regulations
Support our strategy and come up with innovating ideas to build world class data transformation systems one step ahead of the industry
Collaborate with diverse teams to develop, implement and maintain sustainable, high-performance, growth-ready data-processing and data integration systems
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
Experience of running large scale, near real time data processing pipelines using Databricks experience is a must.
Scala or JVM language experience is a must
Track record in using software development best practices such as source control, continuous integration and continuous deployment, test-driven development and elastic cloud architectures (AWS or Google Cloud)
Must have a strong understanding of distributed data platform architecture and technologies that enables a diverse set of data users to work efficiently with data
Ability to work cross functionally with experience in integrating, operating and building systems as part of a data platform
Should have knowledge in data security & compliance and experience in building and operating data access controls using centrally managed policies and entitlements
