As an Engineering Lead, you will lead our Zalando Audience team in Hamburg which handles Advertisement Optimization. You will be responsible for our state-of-the-art, real-time optimization of advertisement and content. Collaborating with Scientists, Engineers, Business Owners as well as Sales, Operations, Analysts etc. to revolutionize data-driven optimization of campaigns. You will also collaborate with a wide range of teams in Zalando to continuously improve our company-wide data-driven optimization culture and infrastructure. You will pioneer data/evidence driven optimization of business at Europe’s largest fashion online retailer.


  • Acting as a sparring partner for our Business Owners to shape the vision of our advertisement/content optimization. You will also be deeply involved in campaign performance measurement and consumer insight generation. Bridging technology and business. Should you desire, you will also proudly represent Zalando at conferences and meetups and give technical talks.
  • Experience in defining strategies and transforming them into profitable success as well as implementing and maintaining vision
  • Possess excellent communication skills in German and English and a strategic thinker
  • Own a strong sense of ownership, bias for action, urgency, drive and a can-do attitude with strong commercial acumen.


  • Develop and execute the strategy and vision for the video team at Zalando to clearly articulate business value and ROI. Also crafting convincing and innovative video use-cases and product propositions that address our customer needs and test ideas with our most advanced brand partners
  • Lead product, analytics, and creative teams to achieve the goals and motivate them to ensure its growth and development, together with your colleagues
  • Manage video projects from production to placements and analytics for the paid brand campaigns. Negotiate with internal teams video placements and drive A/B tests
  • Understand and communicate effectively with internal business customers, partners, and stakeholders to push video formats



  • Data-driven optimisation in domains like Online advertising, E-commerce, social media, P2P lending, online gaming, trading etc. Expertise in test design and analysis (A/B testing)
  • Software Engineering, particularly in high-load transactional systems and large-scale data pipeline - Experience in particular tech stacks are not important, but familiarity with open source technologies is a plus.
  • Leading, coaching and mentoring software engineers and data scientists. 3+ years of experience as team lead working on complex data-driven products.
