At our new tech hub in Lisbon, which opened in January 2018, we are enhancing the digital experience by building unique and engaging experiences for our customers. By developing and prototyping new projects for the online Fashion Store, our Lisbon tech team will shape the future of Zalando and set high standards of software craftsmanship, ownership and excellence.

As a Head of Engineering in Lisbon you will have full end-to-end responsibility of all business partner products for Zalando’s Digital Experience platform that cater to the needs of internal and external customers such as Brands, Influencers and Content Providers. Furthermore you will have the ownership of substantially growing our Tech Hub. The opportunity to make a personal impact in shaping our teams and products in Lisbon is limitless.



Vision: You create and maintain strategic and tactical operations, resource plans and goals for your team based on Zalando’s overarching strategy and functional objectives as well as create a vision for your team to follow.

Delivery: You drive the delivery of a high-performance, scalable and resilient distributed system landscape handling Zalando’s business partner products while continuously enabling a high pace of change and innovations by enabling your engineering teams with clearly set OKRs.  

Growth: Together with your engineering leads you will attract, develop and retain top engineering talents, whilst cultivating a culture of ownership, autonomy, purpose and accountability.  

Impact: You successfully drive setting up our new tech hub in Lisbon and within the tech ecosystem in Portugal. You also drive the continuous improvement of the products that you are accountable for by guiding and enabling autonomous delivery teams.

Collaboration: You facilitate collaboration, communication and decision-making between different engineering teams and stakeholders, particularly with regular business trips to our HQ in Berlin. You and your team partner up with other product and engineering teams of our fashion platform to directly influence the overall tech strategy and roadmap and the impact of the Lisbon tech hub on Zalando’s overall success.



A Lead: You enjoy coaching, team-building and inspiring your team. You bring typically 5-7 years of people management experience in an agile fast-paced development environment.  

Experienced in: You are experienced in building teams from scratch and in designing and operating large-scale applications in a cloud environment, preferrably within the e-commerce industry. You have an excellent understanding on how a overall company strategies impacts the deliverables of your tech teams.  

Tech savvy: You are curious about the newest tech developments in regards to object-oriented and functional programming languages like Java, Kotlin and Javascript. Furthermore you are not afraid of being when required hands-on and to be an active sparring partner when it comes to designing system architecture.

A thought leader: You enjoy attending and sharing your experiences at meetups and conferences. The opportunity of being able to engage with, shape and inspire the tech-community in Portugal poses an exciting challenge to you.
