Incentive Services contribute to 20% of the net merchandise revenue generated at Zalando and is at the core of driving both marketing and pricing strategies. The Discount Services’ tools help to provide greater flexibility for Campaign Managers to create and manage discount campaigns that engage our Customers and Employees.
As a Data Engineer in Zalando’s Incentives team, you’ll bring the engineering perspective into our Data teams. You will be building the Machine Learning pipeline that will transform huge amounts of data into efficient models, bringing value to the end user. You either already have a good understanding of these domains or your strong mathematical background allows you to become familiar with these trendsetting disciplines easily. You will challenge our status quo, drive innovation and apply agile best practices.
Impact. You play a critical role in the team as a software engineer working on key results. Thinking abstractly and discovering correlations between problems, methodologies, and solutions is your daily business. You implement possible solutions, evaluate outcomes, and update directions according to business goals and constraints. You work closely with the Incentives product and commercial colleagues in a scrum agile process. Be ready for alignment visits to Berlin every once in a while.
Excellence. You design and develop backend services that support Incentives and Pricing decision strategies plus you write code that your peers praise for its elegance, readability, and maintainability.
Ownership. You follow a feature through its entire lifetime from problem formulation to solution delivery. You understand and communicate effectively with internal business customers, partners, and stakeholders.
Experience. You have at least three years of professional programming experience in Java or Python and you are familiar with microservices architecture, distributed systems, and RESTful APIs, particularly using cloud infrastructure such as AWS. You like to work hands-on in analyzing large data sets. Experience with relational and NoSQL databases as well as with building and/or running large-scale applications is a plus.
Technology. As a Python/Java Engineer, you have a particular expertise in either distributed computing based on different underlying data layers and/or in agile development practices. (TDD, BDD, pair programming).
Education. You have a degree in computer science or another similar quantitative field. Additionally, you are knowledgeable about current trends in software design, architecture and web services. Eagerness to keep learning and applying new knowledge is one of your traits.
Communication. You like to effectively communicate and understand business requirements quickly. You enjoy working in an international atmosphere with people from different cultures and you are fluent in English.

Our team in Dortmund started as a specialist unit handling everything that relates to Payment. Here we develop our monitoring systems, collaborating with payment service providers to find innovative ways to create the most user-friendly checkout experience possible.
