THE ROLE & THE TEAM
Zalando's Global Catalog department, consisting of two teams, builds the core Product, Media, Brand, and Category systems for Europe’s largest fashion e-commerce retailer.
In this role, you will join the product data serving team, which is responsible for the maintenance and architectural evolution of the event-driven architecture that aggregates and serves product data at scale to all Zalando customers across Europe. The team delivers API interfaces needed to operate and grow Zalando's content supply base.
Aside from the day-to-day management of the team, this role will involve managing the alignment of the team’s roadmap with numerous stakeholders, facilitating and enabling the expansion of Zalando’s business verticals across existing and new markets. You will drive continuous architectural improvements and the evolution of the team's services, ensuring alignment of technical contributions with Zalando-wide projects in close collaboration with Product Managers and principal engineers.
WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
You will support, lead, inspire and grow a diverse team of 7 engineers while ensuring smooth delivery and continuous improvements to business critical systems.
You will support and drive architectural and design decisions in the team, contribute to the priorities, spearhead the documentation.
You will ensure operational excellence of the high-availability services that are at the core of Zalando’s core fashion stores, customer and internal users experiences.
You will manage dependencies, work closely with the product counterparts on solution planning, design and delivery.
You will manage together with the Global Catalog leadership the roadmap and backlog of the product data serving team to balance the technical evolution of the systems and contributions required for other projects.

You are a committed leader with a solid understanding of modern development practices.
You have a history of supporting and mentoring a team of back-end engineers.
You have hands-on experience with API design, microservices, event-driven architecture and experience delivering and managing high-availability services with a 24x7 responsibility, with a keen understanding of observability, monitoring and alerting.
You are comfortable and experienced working with various disciplines in a large organisation, such as Product Managers, Designers, Principal Engineers, and Project Managers. You excel at translating customer problems into actionable tasks and have a proven track record of delivering large initiatives and managing stakeholder relationships.
You have experience working in environments where you solved complex problems within a project setup and have independently driven small to mid-sized projects
You possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and can articulate complex technical topics and solutions in a clear and concise manner.
Bonus Skills:
You should have a proven track record as an individual contributor, particularly in building solutions using event-driven architecture.
You have past experience in the E-commerce industry (highly desirable)
